Weather affects our moods in real life, so it adds another layer of depth when we apply this to our characters.

If you can, try to also incorporate different senses beyond sight. Sight is powerful, but smell is tired closest to memory, and so it will often hit hardest with a reader, reminding them of their own weather experiences. This pulls them deeper into your character's POV. Sound is another big one to add texture. And don't forget texture and taste! You don't have to use all, but even adding one sense other than sight will strengthen your descriptions and make them more compelling.

Do check out the Weather Thesaurus if you need ideas. We look at the mood/weather type connection, and all the difference senses and how it might play into that type of weather phenomenon. Here's an example for the entry "Mist or Fog" http://thebookshelfmuse.blogspot.ca/2011/04/weather-thesaurus-entry-mist-or-fog.html

Happy writing, all! :)

AngelaAngela Ackermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01808259088625142389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5115786557639856820.post-75948059889411153092013-03-03T04:20:58.826-08:002013-03-03T04:20:58.826-08:00I have used weather successfully in the past, but ...I have used weather successfully in the past, but it's been so long I'm afraid I'll be writing in cliches lol.
